There was a time in my life I was a peak performer. It truly felt like the sky was the limit. I excelled in academics and in personal interests. Debate team, music, writing, spirituality among others. I lived with passion. Anything I put my mind to I accomplished. I had fun.
Somewhere after that life had taken its toll. Academic strain, advanced curricula (I have 2 advanced degrees, in health and business), health challenges, prolonged seasons of stress). Financial stress hit like a freight train.
There were ups and downs. In the downs I was grateful to get out of bed and felt like I was crawling on my hands and knees. The ups were good, fulfilling, but honest, I never felt like I got back to my younger years where I truly excelled. Some stressor always seemed to get in the way.
But I have learned a lot over the years. I’ve learned to be grateful for a strong constitution and work ethic. No matter how bad things felt, I managed to get out of bed and get to work. And I always aimed to do my best going out of my way for others- and still do.
But I realize that prolonged seasons of financial strain and overwork do take their toll. It was time for me to do a deep personal inventory of what goals in life I have yet to fulfill. And I realized that to achieve those goals I would need to stretch myself- step outside my comfort zone- to enhance my own performance. To live with focus, pinpoint precision and passion. To live a peak performance lifestyle.
I truly believe there are no limits to what we can achieve and what we can become. I also believe each of us have a purpose and destiny on this earth. And it is our responsibility to manifest our own greatness.
There are things that I’ve done that have been of immeasurable help in getting me to this point. Being very proactive with my health has been one of them. Spirituality is the other. As you will read in my story, these are core lessons I learned from my mom, my first mentor. They are cornerstones of a lifestyle of peak performance that I envision for myself. Other areas I am working on: fitness, endurance both physical and mental, strategic planning. Accomplishing large goals in bite size chunks. One moment at a time.
